LIVING THE LAB LIFE
A BLOG FOR ASCLS REGION V
Hello and welcome to "Living the Lab Life," an effort of the 2015-2016 class of the ASCLS Region V Leadership Academy. Our goal with this blog is to promote the profession of Medical Laboratory Science by creating a platform for discussion of all things Laboratory within the ASCLS Region V network.
First, I would like to talk a bit about the ASCLS Region V Leadership Academy. The ASCLS Region V Leadership Academy is a year-long program available to current ASCLS members residing in MN, SD, ND, and WI. The program brings together a class of up to two participants from each state. Each class first comes together at the Region V Symposium in October to meet and watch the previous class graduate. During the year, students will engage in professional development activities lead by laboratory managers, program directors, and other highly experienced members of the laboratory community. Focus topics include essential skills such as time management, conflict resolution, and communication styles.
Participants then channel all this newfound knowledge into the completion of a master group project of their choosing, which is presented at the Region V Symposium immediately prior to graduating from the Leadership Academy. "Living the Lab Life" is part of the 2015-2016 Class' master project.
For me, Leadership Academy has been an excellent opportunity to develop and grow as both a professional and as a laboratory scientist in ways that just aren't available in a normal workplace setting.
I encourage all interested members to consider applying for Leadership Academy. Regardless of where you are in your career, the skills you will develop will help you to reach the next level. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with wonderful people who will take a personal interest in your growth and success.
For more information on Leadership Academy, please see the ASCLS Region V Leadership Academy information on the Region V website. Applications for the 2016-2017 year will be accepted until June 1st, 2016. Please feel free to post questions in the comment section below.
I hope you all get something out of this project.
